THE COAL POSITION.

Per Press Association. Christchurch, March 17 “ The coal position is improving Mr William Reese, who has returned from the West Coast, says the output is increasing and the men are working well “The Welsh miners are now at work,” said Mr Reese, “and after getting used to the different conditions, will settle down without trouble. The daily output at the Westport-Stockton mine towards the end of the low period was under 400 tons. Last week the average was 576 tons per day, and 8453 tons in all, a distinct improvement that was partly due to extra men working and partly to the end of the ‘go-slow’ policy. Of course we expect it will take some little time before things are adjusted.”
