—« 1 MAR TON v WaNGAKUI BOYS’ COLLEGE The above match in Marton Park on Saturday was full of incident and unexpected reversion of fortune. Marton won on the first innings, but had time been called two minutes later the victory would probably have been to the College boys! With--two wickets to fall they wanted six runs to win, and with true sportsmanship they declined the Marton offer to play on, choosing, to abide by the strict laws of the game. It soon became evident that Marton could take no liberties with the field and when G Marshall, who was * batting well, was brilliantly caught out to what appeared a beautiful boundary, the Marton team sat up and took notice. Broad made a good return to form and gave no chances . for his 24 Marton were all out for 69, but disaster followed disaster with the College team, who were disposed of for 54. Gilmer 11. 17, Wells 16 and Bonnor 10 showed oest form. Marton thought the game over owing to time Imitations, but not so the boys. Marion’s second innings only realised 39, and with half an hour to go the College team attempted to make 54 ffins. Indifferent to the loss of wickets they slogged with main and the next batsman was running in while the last was running out. Near the final stages so daring were the attempts to make runs that the ball was thrown on one occasion three times from wicket to wicket and the field looked more like a football scrum than a sober cricket team. Gilmer 13 made the best score. W Burgess and C Burgess bowled well for Marton. Wells for College obtained a remarkable average. Scores:— MARTQN.
