RAILWAYMAN’S DEATH.
An inquest was held yesterday by Mr Ws’vern Wilson, S.M., in connection with the death of Mr A B Bosley, who died on February 24th as*tbe"resulc of injuries sustained during shunting operations at Marton railway station on February 23rd. After hearing 'evidence, the Coroner returned a verdict that deceased died as the result of shock consequent uopn his injuries. The Coroner further found that, in view of the fact that the accident was caused bj’ the heel of deceased’s boot being jammed between the main rail and the check rail, it was desirable there should be a strict regulation defining the footwear to be worn by shunters, and prohibiting the use of boots or shoes, and otherwise providing for suitable standard footwear. In a further comment the Coroner said “I think such accidents could bo avoided if men wore boots without heels and with elastic sides. As regards ballasting, I cannot say if it would be"a safeguard, nor if*it is practicable, because I have no evidence about it.’’—-Chronicle.
