P er Press Association Oamaru. March 6 The introduction of the poppy for sentimental reasons into the Dominion from France, where it has been declared a noxious weed, is strongly deprecated. At a County Council meeting to-day it was stated that St. John’s wort was planted in a few gardens in Australia and it is now a universal pest, and that the pbppy is a particular menace to wheat. The following resolution was carried .—“That the Council protests against the introduction of the poppy noxious weed, and that the Government should take such steps'-- as are necessary to protect agriculturalists against this pernicious weed, over which the farmers of France and Belgium have no control. ’ ’
