THE BAND CONTESTS.

Per Press Association. Dunedin, March 4. The Band Contests were resumed to-day. Results:— Tenor Trombone Solo, own selection—A M Wills, Invercargill Hibernian, 48, 1; J J Sara, 12th Nelson and Marlborough, 39, 2; W Larham, Wools ton, 36, 3. Wills played “Songbirds.” , His playing stood out,-its only fault was bad slurring. Sara played “Amabel,” and Larham played “La Traviata.” Other competitors were :—A Stewart, Kaiponra 35, L Tunnicllfle, Blenheim, 35, S Trownson, Wanganui, 35, P O'Shea, Kaikonra, 33, A Sullivan, Dannevirke, 32, R 'Gonghleu, St Kilda, 31, O Oben, St Kilda, 30, R L Pettitfc, Maori Hill, 25. B Flat Cornet Solo, own, selection : B Wills, Invercargill, Hibernian, 98, 1; W H Osborne, sth South Canterbury, 96, 2; P Reves, 9th Hawke’s Bay, 95, 3. Other competitors—S Williams 94, J Burns and F Lound 93, R Ohlion 90, R G Allen 90, J Campbell 86, J Humphries 85, G Humphries, F Poilett, and G Christie 80. The winner played “Alexis,” and the judge said it was the finest interpretation of the fantasia he had heard.
