RIFLE SHOOTING.

Per Press Association. Tiontham, March 4. A light rear all day, and gave no trouble at the short ranges nsed. When the first match finished at lunch time it was seen that the ex-Bisley champion, MajOir Wallingford,'late chief musketry instructor to the New Zealand Forces, had given a taste of his quality, notching 74 out of a possible of 80 in three tricky practices at 200 yards. Three men—White, Sunnex and Munro —made a good showing with 71 each. An unusual contretemps now arose. The prize list based on the morning’s shooting' was almost completed when a dispute upset the even tenor of the executive’s way. Several riflemen who are amongst the first flight as marksmen discovered that whereas they l?ad not been allowed spotters, men on the next range had the advantage of thes<? aids. Therefore they asked that*they be permitted to fire again. The matter was considered by the executive, which decided that retiring was impracticable, and the objectors accepted the position, which had arisen through a mis-’ understanding by the officers in the trench. The prize list as drawn up therefore held good, as follows: Oiasstication Practice Match—Five shots at 200 yards, lying, 20sec per shot, five at 200, ssec per shot, 10 rapid at 200 yards, prone position, time, one minute. £4 Major J A Wallingford, M.
