I The Dannevirke News understands on good authority that the greater portion of Mr James Armstrong's Glengarry estate, situated on the northern outskirts of the town, has been acquired by the Government for soldier settlement. Ernest Barry, who has lost the world's sculling championship to Alf. Feiton, of Australia, has held the championship since 1912, when he beat the New Zealander, R. Arnst, on the Thames. He had been beaten previously by Arnst, in the race rowed on the Zambesi in 1910. Since winning the championship Barry hadsuccessl'ully defended it against Durnan (1912), *H. | Fearce (1913); and J. Paddon (1914). No contests were held during the war. The new champion, Alt'. Feiton, is said to be one of the fastest scullers Australia has produced. He has won nearly every match he has rowed, defeating such men as O. Towns, H. Pearce, R. Ford and \V. Fog well. He was beaten by James Paddon, the present champion of Australia. Feiton had youth on his side in this match witn Barry, lor the latter is 89 years of age; also he had what none of the other Australian scullers who have rowed on the Thames had, the opportunity to become thoroughly acclimatised, for he has been in England-for a considerable period. A Sydney cable states that Felton's victory is immensely popular in sporting circles. The papers recall that Feiton first attracted attention by winning the Foxton handicap in 1909. They predict a welcome revival f'of rowing in Australia. Store Fairburn, the celebrated 'Varsity coach, now captain of the Thames Rowing Club, was the umpire of the match. DON'T GET ALARMED.
