RAILWAYMEN’S GRIEVANCES.

Per Press Association

Dunedin, October 28.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of ;the , Railway .Officers’ Institute it was unanimously decided to express strong disapproval of the A.S.K.S. in endeavouring to block a Bill providing increases in salaries for railway officers to cover increased cost of living agreed upon in April at the conference with the late Minister of Kailways the Railway Management and representatives of the Officers’ Institute. The opinion was expressed that in order to embarrass the officers, the A.S.K.S., who already have received increases in pay, reduction in hours and increase for overtime and night work, is endeavouring to induce members of Parliament to oppose the Bill because the Governmentdisagreed with its proposals. The institute supported the clause for promotion by merit as agreed to at the conference. The executive considers that any objection to the clause providing for promotion by merit can be met by the appoinment of a Staff Board.
