Lloyd’s annual review of shipping states that at the end of June there was the largest tonnage building ever recorded, amounting to 4,766, - 623 tons, of which 3,030,319 tons was building in the United Kingdom. Lloyd’s classified 1151 vessels, totalling 3,801,331 tons, during 1918-19, of which the United States constructed 47C vessels, totalling 1.883,759 tons, and the United Kingdom 579, totalling 1,285,063 tons, Japan 70, totalling 35,530 tons ; Canadaß7, totalling 199,941. Only 29 ferro-cone rate vessels were classified.

Lloyds appoints a research committee to test suggestion that a fluid cargo makes a ship sluggish, and also to test a ship in which plates are electrically welded instead of rivetted.
