TAIHAPE NOTES.

From Our Own Corresponded Messrs O. Goodall, S, Moore, and E. Vince, were driving to Wainni the other day, when the horse attached to the gig took fright and went over the hank with tne vehicle. Moore jumped clear and was not injured, but Goodall was dragged over the bank and sustained a broken rib and collar-bone. Vince was thrown clear, and susfc ained only minor injuries. A committee of ladies and gentle- . men is being formed to arrange a children’s ball in aid of High School funds. ; Taihape Athletic Club, which was recently re-formed, has been strengthened by a large number of new members. A special committee has been appointed to draw up programme for New Y ear’s Hay. On Wednesday the returned soldiers of the town and district entertained the members and workers of Taihape Women’s Working Club as a mark of their appreciation of the work done by the. Club on behalf of th% soldiers during the war. During the evening, Mr E. Lenihan referred to the splendid work done by the Club, and thanked the members on behalf of the returned soldiers of Taihape and district, Mr T. Shute responded on behalf of the members of the Club, who were afterwards entertained at a samptuons'repast and" waited on by the returned soldiers. The railway employees of Taihape have taken over a section near the Railway Social Hall and in tend to lay out tennis courts for the use of the staff. A man named Edmund Robinson Jack, a recent arrival from Whaagarei, was found dead at Oruama'tua station on Monday. The evidence at the inquest showed that both deceased and the horse he was riding were found dead in a pot-hole on the station. The Old Girls won by two goals to one. Tie final shoot of Awarna Gun Club for the McLennan Cup was> held on Thursday. Mr J. Whittle who shot 35 birds oat of 37 was the winner, and the runner-np was thedonor of the trophy, with 33 birds, Mr G. Belk won Mr H. Moore’s gold medal, securing the possible, and the same competitor also won: the points prize sweepstake, after tieing with Mr P. Spooner, and fiho: latter won the 31 yqrds sweepstake* after shooting off with Mr W. McLennan.
