Spring Meeting opened in beautifully fine •weather. There is a large attendance and the course is in good order. Results : Seatoun Handicap—Prince Hal 1, Arch Lassie *&2, Prin temps 3. Scratched: Red Signal, Bonnie Heather, Flight Commander, Sir Fanciful, Galore, Utuwai, Negligee. Won by a length and a half, half a length between second and third. Time, 1.28. Taita Handicap—Lucullan 1, Caricature 2, Blackmail 3, Scratched : Strategy, Phio, Tessares, Last Hope, Sagacity, Fortune Teller, Tropical. Won by a neck, three lengths .between second and third. Time, 46sec. Kimutaka Handicap—Falstaff ;1, Bonnie Heather 2, Moutoa Ivanova 3. Scratched: Sir Fanciful, Makepeace, Tortrix, Lovelock, Yascovia and Kohu. Won by a neck, two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.43. Wainui Handicap—Dribble 1, Vagabond 2, Burrangong 8. Scratche d : Hetaua. Won by a clear length, h alf a length between second and third. Time, 1.41.

Wellington Handicap— 1 Kilrush 1, 9 Hetaua 2, 3 Bagdad 8. Also ran: 6‘Nobleman, 8 Bose Pink, 3 Battle Song, 5 Crenides, 2 Lucid, 11 Pacific Slope, 4 Motuihi, 13 War Star. At the half distance Kilrush got up on the rails and won by two lengths, third horse a length away. Time, 3.19.

Wellesley Stakes, four furlongs—2 Moorfowi 1, 3 Weary Willie 2, 6 Bight and Left 3. Also ran: Strategy, Listowel, Bestir, Halifax, Cantabiie, Saima, Siberian, Ennea, Tropical, Tessarss, Wake, Fortune Teller and La Paix. Weary Willie was first to show up, but Moorfowi was not long in ranging within reach, and finishing beautifully, won by half a length. Time, 48sec. October Handicap, six furlongs —5 Admyra 1, 11 Bose Wreath 2, Kil* goar 3. Also ran; Hymarty, Acquit' tal, Black Mark, Parorangi, Sweet Memory, Egmont.Park, Kyoto, Lovelock, Idleness, Elcullus, Probate, Bonny Dundee, Hallowvonia, Sunburst, Russet and Piro Piro. Won by a length. Time, 1.13 4-5. Shorts Handicap, six furlongs—l Tigritiya 1, 3 Maioha 2, 4 Bo Peep 3, Also ran : Waimatoa, Astinome, Demos, Ermine, Kipling, Murihiku, Matatua, Bonuy Briar; Trentham Bose, Spangle and Voluble. A great race, Tigritiya led all the way and just lasted long enough to beat Maioha by a head, with Bo Peep a head away third, and Benny Briar close up fourth. Time, 1.114-5.

SECOND DAY. GLOAMING WINS CHAMPION ' STAKES, Roseneath Handicap—3 Blackmail 1, 5 Wake 2, 3 Gasbag 3. Also ran: Phio, Kildee, Maungaraugo, Fortune Teller, Gate Pah, Tropical. Won by half a head. Time, 47 4-5. Tarawa Handicap—l Bonnie Heather 1, 3 Boyal Exchange 2, 3 Printemps 3. Also ran: Makepeace, Idle Talk, Matty, Fulica, Dick and Machree. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.41. Spring Trial—3 Belle Noir 1, 1 Motuihi 2, 4 Prince Hal 3. Also ran: Sunburst, Hindi, Falstaflf, Hallowvonia and Neglige. A length separated the placed horses. Time, 1.29, Pearce Handicap—4 Hurry Up 1, 3 Crenides 3, 1 Bossin 3. Also ran : Dribble, Lucia, Bagdad, Astinome, Old Gold, Tressida, Moutoa Ivanovs, Bisingham, Bingbam and Tyne. A great race, heads separating placed horses. Time, 1.39 4-5. Juvenile Stakes—l Humbug 1,2 Weary Willie 2, 3 Bight and Left 3. Also ran: Saimai, Halifax, Shamrock, Bestir and Pure Laziness coupled with Weary Willie, Listowel and Ennea. Won by a length. Time, 1.1. Champion Plate—l Gloaming 1, 3 Affectation 3, 4 Mascot 3. Also ran; Vagabond, Desert Gold. At the barrier rise Desert Gold was caught in the tapes, losing fully six lengths. Mascot led into the straight with Gloaming and Affectation moving up. Gloaming took charge at the distance and won easily by "threequarters of a length, third horse a length off. Time, 2,7. Buahine Handicap—l Acquittal 1, 6 Active 2, 10 Kyoto 3. Also ran : Nursing Sister, Arch Lassie, Hymarty, Sweet Memory, Chaaronia, Egmont Park, Probate, Piro Piro, and Busset. Won by a neck. Time, 1.12 4-5. Nainai Handicap—3 Hetaua 1, 6 Kipling 3, 7 Matatua 3. Also ran; Silver Link, Karo, Bo Peep, Demos and Voluble. Won by half a head, third horse a length away. Time, 1.113-5. Bo Peep fell. The sum of £123,934 pasaeddhrough the tote for the meeting, compared with £83,056 last year.
