A.S.R.S. PROTEST.
Per Press Association,
Wellington, Oct. 23,
The Paekakariki branch of the A.S.R.S. protests against increase of salaries to officers as set out in the Railway Bill, demands that wages of all second division men be increased at least *ls per cent, before the end of tbe year, also that members completing TO years’ service be retired, *aud the Minister’s right of veto in appeal cases be abolished. MARTON BRANCH, At an emergency meeting held last night the following resolutions were carried by Marton branch, and it was decided to send same to Press Association for publication:—“That in view of the grave injustices appearing in the amending Railway Bill this branch of the A. S.K. B. pledges itself to support to the utmost the efforts of our Executive to have same removed, and we are prepared to go to any extent, our officers deem necessary to secure for members of the second division some measure of justice.” Further, we most strenuously protest against the provision for en ormon9 increases in salary to officers already eligible to retire on superannuation and in receipt of salaries of upwards of £BOO per year, whilst no provision whatever is made for the lower paid men.
3. In view of the fact that the officers to whom those increases are granted are already eligible to retire we would point out that the increases mentioned would impose an additional burden on the already heavily subsidised superannuation fund. As this fund is subsidised by the taxpayers we urge that the maximum retiring allowance be limited to £4OO per annum.
