A private cablegram received by the Herald from Fanning Island reads as follows: The New Zealand arrived via Samoa and Christmas Island on the 20th, and remained sis hours. Lord and Lady Jellicoe and staff were spectators of a tenuis match against the cable staff, Fanning winning by 26 games to 12. The staff were entertained at lunch on board. Two white men and a native were picked up by the New Zealand on Christmas Island. They had bean eighteen months without outside communication and had been living on fish and cocoanuts. They did not know the war was ovei. A white man met the lauding party with a revolver,. He thought they were Germans. The New Zealand left for Honolulu at 2 p.m.
