WANGANUI MEETING. FIRST DAY. DUSKY EVE WINS THE CUP. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s Autumn Meeting was held yesterday in tine weather and there was a large attendance. There was some excellent racing, five first favourites winning. The starting of Mr O’Connor was first-class, the fields in the various races being very evenly dispatched. Mr R. B, Lusk, of Auckland, officiated as judge for the first time at a Wanganui meeting and hoisted the numbers promptly. Mr W. Hall, cecretary, and his officials had ail the arrangements well in hand, and the meeting under their guidance ran very smoothly. The totalisator handled £42,369 during the day as against £?G,SII for the same day last year. Results:— STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, of £4OO, one mile 110 yards. 1 Mr W. It was an excellent start, from which Tigritiya took up the running from Kipling and Otara. Otara dropped out at the half-mile post, Hendra taking his place just before the home bend was reached. Rude came through trom the back and passed Kipling and want after Tigritiya, who was a good two lengths to the good at the top of the straight. Bade caught her at the distance, and running in strongly won handsomely by a neck, three leugths|betweeu second and third, Robnr, who had a bad run in the early stages, close up, fourth. Wonder and Rebekah were first to show out, Cotillion being nest. At the back corner of the course Rebekah got her head in front and Jutland ran up to Wonder. the straight the filly and Jutland were hard at it all the way, but ihe former had most in her and won by half a length, Active a length away third. Form Up, Deprsdation and Dnsky Eve were the first to leave the mark, Rewi Poto and Client being slow to move, the first three being in the lead all along the back. At four furlong post Rewi Poto put in a big run whch landed him alongside of Form Up. When they passed the stand the last mentioned was just abeal of Rewi Poto. At the back Form Up dropped back and Depredation took his place Dusky Eve moved up at the turn, and upon entering the straight had a good lead from Depredation, with Menelans and Client handy. In the race to the post the winner easily held his own and won by two lengths from Depredation, who was two lengths in front of Menelaus, with Olent half a length away fourth.
