TURAKINA NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent Tha annual public school picnio took plac3 last Friday at Mr Grant’s bush. The weather was all that could he desired, and a large gathering of children, parents and friends assembled. Some friends, who are the possessors of motor cars, kindly conveyed the children and those who had no conveyances of their own. Luncheon and tea were provided by the £ia lies, Games were engaged in and also races for the schoolchildren. Book prizes were also presented to each child, the money required to buy the books baying been raised by a concert is eld some time ago. Before separating a hearty vote of thanks was given to Mrs W. Glasgow for arranging the concert in aid of the prize fund; to the ladies who provided luncheon and tea, to the gentlemen who conveyed the children to the picnic, and to Mr Grant for the pse of the paddock. A lecture on Prohibit! jn was de* livered by Rev W H Hinton, of Auckland, in the public hall on Friday evening As very short notice was given there was not time to make the meeting known to all, and as the school picnic was held that day it wee feared the attendance would not be large, yet about fifty assembled. Mr B. P. Lethbridge occupied the chair and introduced the lecture. Mr Hinton is a forcible and eloquent speaker and held the attention of the'audience as be dealt principally with the economic phase of the liquor question. He showed how the loss in revenue would he more than made np by savings in other directions and by increased efficiency were Prohibition carried. A few questions were answered at the close, and Mr Hinton was accorded a vote of thanks for his interesting address.
