RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CANDIDATE. The Returned Soldiers’ candidate received a substantial lift at ‘the social and dance at Mr I Jefferson’s granary last evening, which was packed to the doors with a merry throng eager to help the baby of the “Man who did his bit,”. In the capable! bauds of Mr J. Duddiug as Master of Ceremonces the entertainment went with a swing that put* everyone in a good humour. Songs were interspersed with vocal items, Mrs B. Jenkins opening with “Coming Home”; Mr J. Newton, “In the Navy” (encored) and “Send a photo of the King to me:” rvir Joe Walker “The Coster’s Dream” (encored) and “The Church Parade;” Miss Butterfield, “Down where the Swauee river flows” (encored) and “Hawaiian 5 Butterfly.” Miss J. Blair. “Until” (encored) and “Love’s Golden Houy” Mr Cairns, “The Blind Poughman” (encored)and “The Cull of the Wild” ; Mr A. Ferris, “God send you back to me,’’(encored ) and “Get out and get under;” Miss M. Griffin, “String of Pearls” (encored) and “Red Rosebud;” Mrs Cairns “Temple Bells” (encored) and “Happy Song” and “Mignon;” Miss Butterfield, “Twiddley-Bits. ” Dance music was voluntarily played by Mrs Cairns, Mrs Gower, Mieses McKenzie, Sutcliffe, Nethercliff, Butterfield and Fitzherbert and Messrs Cairns and A. Blair. Supper, was handed round during an interval, and at the conclusion Mr Duddiug thanked all those who bad assisted to make the function a «6uco r ss, especially mentioning Mr and Mrs I. Jefferson for the many kindnesses received, and also for the decorating of the room, which was draped with red, white and blue streamers and relieved with greenery. The sum of £ll 4s was taken at the dooi and several donations were also received.
