AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB. Received August 13, 10.20 a.m. CAnst, and N.Z. Cable 'Aaaoeiatlcr..: Sydney, August 13. The anuual report of the Australian J. C. states that stakes lor the past year amounted to £28,927, of which £64,450 was added money. £32,746 had beemcoutributed to patriotic funds, making a total to date of £79,886. During the year £500,152 passed through the tote at Randwick. THE LABOUR CONFERENCE. Tlie Labour Conference has concluded- It carried a motion urging that the Aruitration Act should be amended to provide improved wages and conditions for the future to be granted to Unionists only: and all incomes in excess of a thousand a year be appropriated for the purpose of paying the war debt. PURCHASE OF LEATHER. Melbourne, August 13. The Indian Government has purchased six hundred thousand pounds of leather from the Commonwealth. THE NEW WAR LOAN. The prospectus of the new war loan for forty millions states that the loan will be issued at par, interest being five per cent. The loan matures in 1923. It will he subject to Commonwealth taxation, but not to State income tax.
