NON-EXEMPTION OF MAORIS.
FOR MILITARY SERVICE. (For-Press Auckland, August 9. The Maori Appeal Board gave reserved decision on the points raised for claiming total exemption for Natives under the Treaty of Waitangi. The Board, consisting of Judge McCormick, and two Maori colleagues, unanimously dismissed the appeal. The chairman said Parliament, by the Military Service Act, 1916, declared Natives of mili tary arm liable to compulsory service. Whether there was any remedy was entirely outside the functions of the Board.
