DERELICT SIGHTED.

SUPPOSED AMERICAN - V SCHOONER.

WJiat is supposed to bo a derelict was sighted recently between Tulag, in the Solomon Group, and Nauru, 1 by one of the Burns, Phi Ip, and Company’s Island steamers. The derelict was apparently that of an Amercau schooner, with two stumps of tho masts showing above tho water. Nows was subsequently received from the Gilbert Group* that h quantity of red wool! timber had been wasltvd up on tho islands. Hundreds of feet of tho timber drifted ashore, end was secured by the natives. The timber had only been a short time in tho water,’ and bad evidently come from some lumber laden vessel. Tho natives of tho Gilbert Group were turning the timber to some account, latest advices being that they were actively employed building canoes out of tho redwood.
