RONGOTEA NOTES.

From Our Owu Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Rongotea School uommittce w«s held last Monday night. Present; Messrs J. R. McCall, chairman, F, Wright, A. P. Landers, 11. Major, R. A. Callander and Mr P. Kime. The head teacher reported that during November 7 Were admitted and 3 left the roll, number at the end of the month being 1 So. The average attendance is 125. G or 93 per cent of the average roll. Two smdi accounts were passed for payment end several minor dP irs dealt with and the meeting terminated. The we .-tiier report for November at Eongoto >. During the a oufch rain fell on 12 days,the total for the month being 1.3 inches the ho -viest rain WoS on the 7th, when 49 indies fell.

Haymaking lias skirted and weather permitting things will bo busy during the hoiiihy time in this part. The following list of articles were despatched by the Rongotea and district Red Cross Guild as supplied by tho Hon. Soc'etay, Miss Darrrfgb, to Yfellington, for oar soldiers at tlio front. : —2 handkerchiefs, 4 towels, tO swabs. 20 surgical veils, 9 suits pyjamas, 7prs sucks, 9pr socks, 3 pillow' cases, 3 shirts, 5 bod jackets, 40 m.inytriilod bandages, 25 dozen roller bandages. The box was convoyed free of charge by Mr H. P. S' lulcr’s motor lorry. Now, as the season is getting easier, it would bo pleasing to soo a larger attendance of ladies at tho Hall on Guild days. The results of the Proficiency examination -at Hongote-i school, 19i7: ■ —Roy i allandcr, William Hurst, George Lind, Janies Lj on, George lingworth, Annie hunt. Boys, of Palmerston Korth, proaclied both morning and evening and in tho atfornoon gave a very interesting address to the 'children also. The Church whs well tilled on tho three occasions. On Monday evening the annual prizes w'ero given. The Rev. R. P. Keall .-was chairman and tho programme which was long and varied, was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present, the, items given by the children, which reflected great credit on their teachers, were enthasiasticiliy received. Several anthems w’ero also rendered by the pupils under the baton of Mr J. C. Glover, while Mrs Gould presided at the organ. The following is the programme : Anthem,pupils; chairmans address; recitation, May Bayliss; song, Stella Seymour. Golden Texts competition for the year W'»s given by Clive Landers and‘Stella Seymour Ist and 2nd quarter. Recitation Willie Hurst: song school girls; recitation, Ivy Bayliss; dialogue, “Six little nurses, ” 0 girls; song, May Bayliss and Lily Hurst. Golden Text competition, 3rd and 4th quarter, Hazel Hurst and Marima Major. Action song, girls; recitation, Marima Major. Miss Gould, the secretary, read a highly satisfactory report of the Sunday School The superintendent, Mr A. Glover, mentioned that as well as the competitions for tho Golden Texts, for tho year, which w'f-s won by tho four littlo girls, he stated that another interesting competition was keenly competitor! for was to find tho two words PFeur No A’ throughout the Bible .this was won by Doris Dear, Olivo Landers being second, who won handsome prizes. Several others competing received prizes for their good work in the same competition. Tho chairman then distributed all the prizes and afterwards called for a hearty vote for the good work put in by the teachers, eulogising the splendid work done by Miss Gould, our secretary and organist, wdio sacrifices a lot of time in tho Sunday School work.
