THE MESOPOTAMIAN DRIVE.
A WONDERFUL WEEK.
FALKENHAYN'S PLANS UPSET. (Received Mondav, 9.21 p.m.‘) LONDON, Nov. 18. The Australians’ and New Zealanders’ occupation of Jaffa crowns a week of wonderful success in Palestine. It provides the army with an important port for supplies, relieving the single railway line connecting Palestine with Egypt. It is believed in military circles that General Allenby’s sweeping drive has thrown the Turks into complete confusion, the decisiveness of the repeated strokes having seriously embarrassed, possibly defeated, Ealkenhayn’s plans. It is understood that Ealkcnhayn is sending reserves from Aleppo to retrieve the situation. It remains to be seen whether he will await Allcnby at the northern exit of the Sharon plain or push on towards Jerusalem. ILLNESS OF A GENERAL. Received Nov. 20, !) a.in. Loudon, ov. 10. General Maude, commanding in Mesopotamia, is ill. THE VICTOR IN MESOPOTAMIA DEAD. Obituary.—General Sir Frederick Stanley Maude, commander in Mesopotamia.
