NEW ZEALANDERS AT HOME.

The following is an extract from a letter received to-day from an exNew Zealander, from Home —“We do indeed feel very proud of New Zealand. She has given of her best and given that freely. When wo see the name of a New Zealander fallen we feel quite sick at the thought of some one’s grief the other side of the world. Tho dash and bravery, both of them and the Austi-alians are most warmly commented on, not only by the Press but by our returned Tommies. A wounded Tommy returning on hospital ship said to a wounded Maori, “You will be lost in London.” “So would yon be in the Now Zealander, ” was the prompt reply. A young fellow called Birsted from Christchurch told us in hospital that they had a terrible time on Hill —, no food for three days and only water in their bottles, and Turks on each side, and when the Maoris came np with their war cry, “it was good hearing.” The Turks don’t like them a bit. The tales brought back from those unfit for future service and in exchange for our poor prisoners of war—-are very harrowing, but conditions are improving—still, if we want to keep our men over there alive, food and warm clothing must be sent. Each regiment now has its prisoners of war executive committee, and they send things weekly. Bread goes from Switzerland through the British Consul, 4s 6d gives bread ( 41bs) a week for three weeks, and it is most delicious, so different to the almost uneatable bread tho Germans give them.
