Yesterday afternoon a married man, John Soane, employed on a farm on the bank of the river at the Manawatu Gorge, left on horseback to fetch the cows from au island at the confluence of the rivers. An hour later the riderless horse returned. A search proved resnltless. A hat was found this morning. It is feared that the horse stumbled while crossing the river and the rider was drowned.
