TAIHAPE NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. The patriotic funds controlled by the Taihape Patriotic Committee now reach a total of £2963 10s 5d being made up as follows:—Belgium Relief Fund £2165 ,17s; Local Relief Fund £361 15s Sd; Wounded Soldiers’ Fund £435 17s 9d.

In connection with Taihape’s nest quota of 10 men for Trentham, Sergt.-Major Tuckey reports that he already has 6 men on his books, passed as fit,’ who will leave for camp before November 10th. The treasurer’s report submitted at the last meeting of the Taihape -Borough Council showed the various accounts to stand as follows:—District Fund, dr., £2903 2s 6d, as against £2925 4s at .the previous meeting; Interest Account, dr,, £SBB Is 2d, as against £638 14s 6d the previous meeting. Temporary loans, dr., £640; Loan Account No. 3., £661 13s 9d ; Loan No. 2, £l9l 8s 9d Oval Domain Account, or., £24 16s 3d. Accounts amounting to £157 13s 2d were passed for payment.

Whilst Mr and Mrs Gilchrist and Mr Potaka, of Utiku, were motoring to Taihape on Monday, the car somehow caught, fire and suffered great damage. Mr Gilchrist and,Mr Potaka both sustained severe burns

ut Mrs Gilchrist escaped injury. >, The Egmont Box Company's annual ball takes place at-Ohutu on Friday of this week. This function has always been one of the best throughout this district during past years, but according to preparations being made the coming event will easily eclipse anything* previously known at Ohutu.
