HUNGARIAN FRONTIER OPEN. Bucharest, Dec. 1. The 'Russians have occupied the whole of Bukovina, capturing enormous quantities of arms, ammunition, and provisions. The Austrian Catholics fled. The Hungarian frontier is now entirely open. THE PENANG- RAID. Sydney, Dec. 1. Captain Paramor, of the steamer Nigaristen, from Penang, states that the Emden did not fly the Japanese flag when she raided Penang harbour, but entered before daylight flagless. She was thought to be the cruiser Yarmouth until she steamed close to the Jemschug and opened lire, sinking her within half an hour. The Jemschug hired several shots while settling, but went wide, two striking separate vessels and injuring an engineer on one. Over two hundred of the Jemsohug’s crew were saved by boats from various vessels. The Emden flew the German flag on leaving. The French destroyer Monsquets was sunk in a gallant attempt to disable the Emden as she was departing. Twenty of the Mousqnet’s crew were saved, mostly by the Emden, which subsequently held up a British steamer and placed them aboard. At the. time of the raid the Nigarjstan was lying near the Jemschug, waiting to coal her. The Jemschug was boiler cleaning, and was caught unawares, most of her crew being asleep. She had an officer and 88 men killed, and three officers and 120 wounded. A FIJI CONTINGENT. Suva, Dec. 1. A Fiji contingent of 100 men is to joia the New Zealand reinforcements draft.
