THE CHRISTCHURCH TRAGEDY.

THOMPSON COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.

Per Press Association,

Christchurch, March 4.

Alexander Thomson, charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of his mother, in consequence of a ruptured varicose vein, has been committed for trial. A new feature has been introduced into the case by the evidence a child, brother of the accused and son of the deceased. The charge arose from a Mow received by deceased during a quarrel between the son, Alexander, and a man named Baxter, with whom she lived. The boy stated that Baxter told him after his mother’s death to say that Alexander gave his mother a Mow and knocked her down, but the statement was untrue.
