The Right Hon. L, Haroourt presided at the Empire Parliamentarians’ luncheon to Lord Denham and Mr Myers at the House of Commons The Dnke of Argyll, Lord Bryce, Lord PlcmketS and many M’s.P. and their wives were present.

Lord Emmofct, in proposing the health of their guests, paid a tribute to Australia , and New Zealand’s reception of the British Parliamentarians. He said their social legislation was deeply interesting and was inspired by the desire to benefit millions rather than millionaires. Lord Denham advocated that all State Parliaments should be incorporated in a Parliamentary Association on the same terms as the Commonwealth. Britishers often forgot that the States had sovereign rights. Mr Myers, of Auckland, detailed the reproductive character of the New Zealand debt and the popularity of the defence system. He explained the tendencies of social legislation. The Dnke of Argyll said the Motherland should take hints from the Dominions’ experience. The Dominions, in many of the aspects of democracy, were older than ourselves, and had given ua a lead in making patriotic sacrifices on behalf of defence. 1
