FIRES.

A 10-roomed wooden building occupied by Frederick Batchelor as a boardinghouse, was totally de stroyed by fire last evening. M Batohelor was the only one in the house at the time, and was in the yard at the rear of the house, and heard a rumbling sound. She*looi<ed round and saw the kitchen in flames. A strong wind was blowing, and the flames rapidly _ spread. There was no chance of saving . anythinug. A number of boarders lost practically overyth ing. Mr Batehelor is also a heavy loser. Insurance: Furniture and effects £240, in the Guardian building, owned by Home estate. £4.00 in the Victoria and £2OO in Alliance. Dunedin, January 15.
A six-roomed house in iiaikorai Valley, owned and occupied by John Dickinson, a fitter, was burnt to the ground early this morning, nresumably through a small fire left 1u the range. Insurances: House £3OO, and furniture and effects £3OO, both in the Victoria.
