Horowhenua ■ County Council wrote jto Manawatu County Council on Tuesday stating they thought the claim made on them for damage done on Foxton-Shannon road by flax carted was excessive. It was urged also that traffic by Manawatu County on Horowhenua roads was much greater. In order to arrive at an understanding and avoid the cost of a commission it was suggested that a conference of the two Councils should be held at Palmerston. As the outcome of the recent strike of Bluff Territorials, the Defence authorities took .‘action and prosecuted defaulters. Five Territorials appeared at the Court. Two were fined £3 each, and two others £4, while the fifth was ordered to come up for sentence, when called upon. The Department intends to prosecute other Southland Territorials who have defaulted.

A complaint against the quality of bay in Manawatu Council’s Pound was not taken seriously ,by the Council yesterday, and the request for a refund of 2s 6d charged was not entertained. One Councillor remarked that the horse had probably had a good feed of grass on the road and Cr. Hickford, on the state of the roads which, when he started his duties, were in a bad state. They were in fact absolutely dangerous, but now they compare with any round about. - The cost had been heavy, and now the Engineer wanted finer metal, which would mean more expense. It was decided that the purchase of stone crusher be held over.
