FIRES.

Per Press. Association. Auckland, November 5. A two-storied building in Upper Queen Street, known as Greerton’s Private Hotel, was destroyed by fire at 3 o’clock this morning. Eighteen boarders escaped unhurt, with tha exception of a son of Mrs Howard, occupier of the house, who either jumped from a high balcony' 01 fell from a ladder. He was- picked up bleeding and unconscious, and was removed to the hospital. The, contents of the building were destroyed, except for a few personal belongings saved by boarders. , 1 Later.

Sydney John Howard, aged 23, who was injured in the fire in Upper "Queen Street, , Auckland, died after being admitted to the hospital. 2 Dannevirke, November 5-

A fire occurred early this morning in a six-roomed house in _ High’ owned by Mrs WysocKi, and occupied by M. Sanders and family. Splendid work was done by the brigade, which confined the flames to the kitchen, though the building was somewhat damaged by water. Insurances cover the damage, which was comparatively light.
