The Blnff Press states yiat a sensation ooontred at Stewart Island in connection with the coaling of the Norwaigan whalers at Paterson’s Tale*. The s.s Ngatoro, from Westport. brought 400 tons of coal for the Norwegians oh Thursday, and commenced discharging into the barque Mimosa at Paterson’s lalst. The time allotted for discharge was 48 hours, bat Captain Christian did fast work, and the work was completed in 13 hours. It appears that ’ Captain Didrlckon, of the Mimosa, declined to pay over on completion of discharge, maintaining that as 84 hours had beers allotted the Ngatcro beloaged to him on charter for that period, and he would act allow bar to leave. Mr Grainsa, representing the coal company, protested, and tbe chief officer; Mr Mnir, late Captain of the Innerdale, went ever to the Mimosa to inteiview Captain DSdrioksen and demand , payment, it that words arose and ended in a more serious encounter. Captain Didrickeen still refused to pay. On 'Saturday morning Captain Christian and Mr Mnir boarded the Mimosa and waited on Captain Didrickeeu in his cabln.i It Is alleged that the captain threatened to eject them, and that Mnir, a powerful Kan, bad to use force to obviate- . injury. Oapain Dldrlcksen still refused to pay over, and Captain Christian said he would demand It through the Admiralty Court. The Ngatoro wlegßed anchor and took a turn tbe Mimosa before leaving for Bluff. As they were leaving Captain Didrloksen put off in a boat acd boarded the Ngatcro; to go to the Bluff. Mr Giaims took out a writ of attachment through the Admiralty Const, and 1 Sheriff Colye»■ hold it. Captain Didrlcksen was given until 630 on Saturday night to pay over, together with £ls 15s costa. He did not' do bo. On Sunday he was threatened with the seizure of the vessel, and he then paid over, the costs having in the meantime amounted to between £4O and £SO. The Ngatcro left for Grey month on Sanday morning to load coal for s.s. Nairnshire at Lyttelton.
