Wellington, March 5. Id the Supreme Court to-day, before the Chief Justice William Williams, a young man for theft of £73, the funds of the Iron and Brass Moulder’s Union, was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment. Charles Brooks, aged 19, for breaking and entering a house at tha Hutt and stealing £2 15s, was ‘.‘admitted to probation, it being his first offence. Robt. Yanston, aged IS, for stealing two cows at Maknri, being the first offence, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Christchurch, March o.
A street preacher, who was before the Magistrate’s Court this morning charged with having caused an obstruction, was convicted and ordered to pay costs. He said it was against hia religious principal to pay costs. The Magistrate said: “Don’t talk rubbish like that. If yon are in this country you must obev its laws. You will go to gad for the Loll term provided by law.” The preacher was accordingly sent to gaol for one month.
