From Our Own Correspondent, A resident of the Manui district was arrested by Constable Potter on a ei.arg.3 of defacing the earmark of his' -neighbour's sheep and remanded for a-week. At the annual -meeting of the Athletic Club the secretary read the report and balance-sheet which showed a very creditable balance on the right side, viz., £BO 7s Od, and it v/as proposed that tho annual sports bo held on the 23ud January. Mr Bounor donated a cup to the value of eight guineas for the handicap. The ' arrangements for music were left with Mr R. Summers, the secretary, to deal with. It is rumoured that Mr E. T. George of Manui hasdisopsed of his section to Mr Whale, who will shortly take possession. The Seddon memorial—an addition to tho- Public Library—received a coat of paint to shield it from tho heat of the summer sun. It has not yet been officially' opened, Mr Uiio Shannon has been nominated to handicap for the running evGiits at tho local sports and MiHardy, of Taranaki, hamlioapper for the chopping events. With regret we announce the death of Mrs Ph'yn, of the Kawatau, which occurred at Cambridge. Only a month or two ago the deceased's husband died in Palmerston,

Mr T. Lohh, County foreman in Maugaweka/is at present supervising the asphalting of tho footpaths within the' town area to the full width. This will bo a great benefit ro pedestrians and business people alike. Mr Leigh thoroughly understands tho work of laying the tar and sand.

Mr R. Totmau, the well-known breeder'of cattle ~' disposed of a nice mob to a local buyer In::t week at £0 10s. Tho cattle that como off Mr Totmau's run in the Kawatau are always in the pink of condition, which goes to show that ho understands thoroughly tho management of cattle-breeding and gracing,
