(Formerly of Tadcroft, Makirikiri South,) Old settlers there are left us, none, or few, Who made these lauds a homo wherein we dwell ; Of those that came thereafter, one Wo know Who lived and wrought among us many a year: Not much he prospered, but with kindly cheer Would give as best be could a helping hand; He left us now more years than I can tell, And cook his work up in the dear Home laud In Church and Town affairs iu divers

ways, And honours came on his declining days: His soul has been required by God Who gave; And from the shadow of that noble pile, Whoso spire like a shaft of gleaming . light Doth pierce four hundred feet unto

theskies, All classes followed on behind his ■■ bier, And laid him with due rights within " the'grave In promise of those hopes not garnered here : And she, so dear a friend, doth wait awhile, Who long hath walked by faith and not by sight, And in her children’s lives doth live her own; Who moves within a world that’s not unknown To those whom spiritual hope and love inspires, Until that mystic dawn of Paradise Wherein the heart doth reach its full desires.
