In the House of Commons, in connection with the Finance Bill, Air Asquith resisted an amendment to reduce the income tax to lid, though be denied that be bad stated the tax would be permanently a shilling. The amendment was negatived by 230 to 95.
Mr Asquith consented to pensions, superannuation allowances, and deferred pay being treated as earned income and thus entitled to pay the reduced tax of ninepenee.
