MR DEAKIN AND LABOUR.

A Lame Apology. Press Association. —Copyright. Peuth, June 20. Mr Deakiu lias been interviewed with reference to his spoech at De Keyser's Hotol in London on May 12th, which gave rise to inuch condemnation in labour Circles in Australia. He said he was not askod and said nothing about the Federal Labour Party. His remarks about the Labour Party being in deep waters referred to Queensland alone and Were founded on tho latest cabled information from Australia. The reporters evidently wero unfamiliar either with the distinction between the several States or between the States and the Commonwealth, consequently they made confusion in his remarks. It was rather amusing to find himself challenged for repeating statements in reference to the state of the Labour Party, which were made on the faith of correspondents in Australia.
