FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

Per Pi ess Association Wellington, June 19. Delegates from tho various Friendly Societies in the colony met representative medical men in Wellington to consider various matters. It was decided that a conference be held between a committee from the Friendly Societies and a oommitttee from the >OllOOll3 fdivisions of the New Zealand branch of the Medical Association to consider the question of the fees. It was decided that in the event of disagreement between a society or branch and its' medical officer, or between a lodge and theMedical Association, the matter he submitted to a committee drawn from the local division of the Medical Association and the branch concerned ; if the committee fail to agree the matter to be submitted to arbitrators, one to be appointed by each party; that in the event of a candidate being passed by the medical officer and such candidate being initiated, the quarterly medical fee of tho member be paid to the. medical officer examining such candidate, in the case of rejected candidates the examination fee to be ss, The ''conference could not endorse the suggestion that no person paying income tax shouldbe entitled to lodge benefits. It was also decided that the widowed mother of a single member should be entitled to medical attendance, pro. vidiug she is dependent on such member. These resolutions were only agreed to tentatively on tho part of the doctors, who made it clear that they had not full power to act for the wholo of the medical profession engaged in lodge work.
