ANDREW BLACK—PREMYSLAV CONCERT.

To-Night This evening at the Opera House the above talented combiuatioou will make their only appearance in Marton. The programme to he presented would attract attention in any part of the world, aud there is every reason to anticipate a packed house. Few artists have received such genuine tributes from the press, and the hearty way tho public have endorsed tho critics’ opinions is exemplified by tho splendid attendance at'their concerts. Wo quote from a contemporary:—“A concert company of the excellence of that which appeared at tho Princess Theatre last evening, aud in which Mr Andrew Black'and Air Leopold Premyslav, the Polish violinist, take the positions of-prominence, visits Dunedin at intervals few aud far between, and music lovers have air exceptional opportunity afforded them with the company’s advent. During his recent visit to tills city, Mr Andrew Black impressed his remarkable qualities as a vocalist upon all who heard him, aud the reappearance of the distinguished baritone is a most welcome event. There is_ a solid merit, a consistent trueness, in Air Black’s art that is absolutely unassailable. He is really tlm model singer, at once sympathetic and powerful, devoid of mannerisms, admirable iu ail his methods, and with a splendid vocal organ at his_ command. Tho most striking evidence of Air Leopold Premyslav’s abilities »sja violinist was found in tho fact that last evening he shared with Mr Black tho honours of tho concert. Those who heard lleonnan’s masterly playing hero not so long since will be tho first to allow that AI. Premyslav is a young violinist who lias already attained a most enviable rank aa a musician. From the outset his playing excited the audience to most appreciative admiration, and it waa characterised by exceptional brilliance and finish. His first contribution was Paganini’s lengthy concerto iu D Alajor, given without an effort. A recall was his reward. On his second appearance he gave a bracket of three items—Beethoven’s Romance in G Alajor, the dainty seventh of Brahms’s series of Hungarian Dances, and Ries’s eccentric ‘ Porpetunm Alohile, ’ and an extra number had to bo played iu response to an emphatic encore. A similar compliment was paid to player aud audience when in the second part of the concert Air Premyslav had given brilliant renderings of the sextette from Donizetti’s ‘Lucia di Lammormoor’ and Wieuawski’s ‘Airs Russes. ’ Aliss Buckmanu aud Aliss Beattie are both exceptional artists, and add their quota to the general success. Tho concert commences .at eight o’clock and the doors will he closed during the performance of each number. ”
