SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The regular meeting of the school committee was held on Friday night; present—Messrs J. Graham (chairman), S. Graham, T. Bates, E. Hajwcod and Mcl'avish. The headmaster's report showed that everything in and about the school was in good order. The chairman was authorised to get certain necessary repairs attended to. KITCHEN SOCIAL. The Maramarua Hall was crowaed to the doors on the 26th February, when the residents of the district tendered a kitchen social to Misses A. and E. toote. Dancing was the chief form of amusement, and Mr Sid Appleby, who was M.C., kept things lively, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mr Malcolm Brown, of Pokeno, had charge of the music and did bis share in his usual first - class manner. Extra# were plaved by t Miss Clark. j During the evening Mr Mclnnes, senr., in a very happy and humorous way tendered the Misses Foote tbe congratulations to all those present. The young ladles received a large and varied assortment of presents, suitable for the kitchens of their future homes. PICNIC. Last Friday the Maungatawhiri Valley Sunday School held their annual picnic in Mr Lyons' paddock. Although a f£w showers ftll during the day a very enjoyable day was spent by the large number present Races of all descriptions, that created fun and amusement, were held. Only one thins: marred the married men's fun, and that was their defeat in the tug-of-'war against the singles.
