Mauku.

The Mauku Cricket club were very unfortunate in striking such a wet night as Wednesday for their dance. That it affected the attendance was undoubted, but those who were present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The hall had been tastefully decorated with ferns and other foliage, whilst the club colors were to be seen peeping out from amidst the green back-ground. During the evening Mr Miyan, who donated a handsome tne Manakau Association, handed'iTover to the president of the Association, who in turn passed it on to Mr H. Wily, the president of the Mauku club, who transferred it to Mr Pleydell, captain of the team which won the championship this year, with the wish that it might be the fortune of the Mauku Cricket Club to be the guardians of the Warin Cup i for many years. Mr 1 leydell then presented the caps to the members of the team. Three cheers for Mr and Mrs Warin, " the skipper " and the secretary were given. The music for the lengthy programme of dances was played by Miss Bailey, Miss Patullo aud other ladies. In ull such affairs it is fated that some must work for others' pleasure and to Mr M. Crispe, the secretary of the Club, the committee and the many ladies who helped every credit is due for the thorough manner in which they carried out their duties. It is to be hoped that the Cricket Club will make this an annual function and that on many occasions to come the residents of this locality will be able to congratulate the club on being the winners of the Warin Cup. Following are the averages for batting and bowling for the Mauku Cricket Club for the season 1911-12: Batting: W. G. Plevdell, 17 1 ; J. B. Goldsworthy, 12 4; E.G. Cuff, 12 4; T. A. Kemp, 12 0; S. Rowe, 10 3; W. Finlay, 80; H. Wilcox, 73. Bowling: S. Rowe, 4.0 ; T. A. Kemp, 4 7 ; W. G. Pleydell, 8 7 ; E. C. Cuff, 11-0; J. B. Goldsworthy, 15 6. The annual meeting of the members of St. Bride's Church took placo on Friday last and there was a fair attendance. The Vicar (the Rev. C. A. Vaughan, of Waiuku) was in the chair. Ihe balance sheet for 1911 -12, showing a balance in hand of £9 Is 9d, was consideied satisfactory. The Chaiiman in his report referred to the increased congregations and offertories, and congratulated the people on the number of Communicants and their regular attendance at the celebrations. The Wardens, Vestry, Treasurer and Auditor were all ieelected. Votes of thanks were passed to the organist (Mrs A. E. Wright), the choir, all church workers, to the treasurer (Mr A. E. Wright) and auditor (Mr Wily). The Vicar refeired with gTatitude to the help rendered to St. Bride's by the Waiuku lav readers, and expressed the earnest hope that Mauku would ere long produce its own lay reader. During the year a new bell has been hung in ihe old Church tower, to replace the one which was worn out by nearly fifty years' duty in calling the people to seivice. The cost of the bell was over-subscribed in the course of a month.
