PROPOSED HALL FOR OKAUIA
SITE OF FOUR ACRES NEAR SPRINGS A meeting of Okauia districts settlers was held recently to hear a report by a special committee regarding the proposed hall to serve the district on the eastern side of the Waihou River. A site of four acres at the road junction about threequarters of a mile from the Springs bridge is available as a domain. This was set aside in the early days as a school site. In the opinion of the committee this is admirable for a site for a hall, together with sports grounds to serve the needs of a closely-settled district. For many years Okauia settlers have made use of a woolshed on Mr Bill Barton’s property as a hall. This has been possible through the continued generosity of Mr Barton to whom the thanks of the community are due. However, in the opinion of the special committee the time has come for settlers to help themselves and the district by creating their own headquarters for the social activities of the district. In March a further meeting of Okauia ratepayers will be held to decide what action is to be taken. The special committee hopes that all Okkuia will bo there and that the meeting will bo 100 per cent, in favour of going on with the project. I
