PARKS COMMITTEE
MONTHLY MEETING A short meeting of the Putaruru Parks Committee was held last week, those present being Messrs. A. C. Anderson (chairman), J. A. Ranger, R. Lee, N. Fitzhefbert, H. Tuck, D. C. Freeman, J. H. B. Morris, L. Williams, and the secretary, Mr. V. L. Drummond. Apologies were received from Messrs. C. A. Deih-I and C. V. Pearce. Mower for Park Prices were received from several firms of mowers suitable for use at the park. However, as all appeared to foe in the vicinity of £4OO to £SOO, it was decided) that it would be more economical meantime to employ a tractor mower, until the committee was in a better position to purchase a mower. It was agreed that the purchase of a suitable new mower be deferred for 12 months, and that a local contractor with a tractor mower fee approached regarding the cutting of the grass at the park. County to Assist The Matamata County Council wrote, in reply to the commitee’s letter asking for its approval of the scheme, that the proposals as ouitlined were progressive and desirable. It would view with interest the future progress of the scheme. Tennis Courts ‘ Dt was 1 decided to remove, the rock on the park to form the foundations of the tennis courts. It Was suggested by the chairman that until the committee is able to foituminise the courts, fine sand placed on them would provide satisfactory courts meantime for tennis and ‘basketball. The stand, when worked in, would provide a good solid base for the bitumen. Memorial Subsidy A further circular and questionnaire were received’ from the Internal Affairs Department in regard to the war memorial subsidy scheme. The secretary was instructed to complete the questionnaire and return it.
