MONTHLY DAN^E The usual monthly dance was held in the Lichfield l Hall on Saturday night, and drew an average crowd. The orchestra engaged for the occasion could not attend, and music for the dance was supplied by Messrs. A. Schuler and Myan. Extras were played by Miss Des Sanders and Mr. Don, of Putaruru. Mr. I. Rea was M.C. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The June meeting of the Lichfield Women’s Institute was presided over by the president, Mrs. J. Cox, who was assisted by the secretary, Mrs. Jim Hamilton. There was a good attendance of members, and- visitors were present from Tokoroa and Whakatane. Apologies were received from four members. Members were advised that a group meeting would be held this month, and that the institute dinner for members’ husbands and friends had also been avranged for this month. Arrangements for the birthday party to be held in July were discussed'. A demonstration on the making of paper flowers- was given by Mrs. J. Anderson, assisted by Mrs. J. Cox. , . Competition winners were as follows: Basket of flowers and autumn leaves, Mrs Gough 1, Miss B. Lowe 2; vegetable, Mrs L. Addenforooke 1, Mrs Jamieson 2; cooking, Mrs Jamieson 1, Mts Gough 2; sewing, towel from sugar bag, Mrs Rea 1, Mrs J. Cox 2. Competitions for July are. vegetable, best in garden; floral, half a dozen paper flowers; cocking, eggless fruit cake; sewing, best way of using a skein of wool. Members were reminded that the next meeting will be held on the second Thursday of July. The winners of the competitions for a rabbit and a flower vase were Miss Betty V-arley, of Tokoroa, and Mis® Nellie Hunt, of Putaruru, respectively. A cheery afternoon came to an end with the serving of afternoon tea by the hostesses, Mrs Bernhard and Misses J. Blenne.hassett and B. Baldwin.
