CHARGED WITH THEFT
MAURI CONVICTED William Reihana, a Maori, was charged before Messrs. A. C. Anderson and N. Fitzherbert, JL’sP., in the Putaruru Court on Friday morning, with the theft of a man’s watch valued at 14s, the property of Leslie. George Marwood. Defendant pleaded guilty., Constable R. Dunn slated that two weeks ago complainant had come into Putaruru. He kept the watch hanging on a nai! in his truck, and on this occasion thought he remembered taking it arid putting it in his pocket. While in the billiard room he found it was missing. Enquiries were made, and defendant, when interviewed; at Tirau by the police, stated that he had found the watch on the road', half buried in the sand, in the vicinity where complainant had parked his truck. Complainant, stated the constable, was satisfied that defendant had taken the watch from his pocket. Defendant had been before the Court on ,fwo other occasions on theft charges. Reihana was convicted and . sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment.
