WOMEN’S INSTITUTE There was a good Attendance at the .May meeting of the Arapuni W omen’s Institute - held recently, and presided over by Mrs. Brooker. The meeting opened with the Singing of “Comrades and FMend:*” and tlje to--citing -of the aspirations,-•"'Thare were five apologies. Mrs. Eves reported on a meeting she attended recently and reminded members that the next group meeting would be held in Putaruru in June. Arapuni being required to provide a chairwoman for the day, Mrs. Eves accepted this position. A display of. work will be held and members were asked to bring their artiems to the next meeting..

An invitation to their birthday was received during the month from Maungatautari Women’s Institute. Owing to transport difficulties no one was able to attend.

The roll call, “a picture I have enjoyed,” brought forth some interesting replies, but showed that every member appreciated a “firstclas.j’ picture. A competition arranged by Mrs. Dennis was won by Mrs. Robertson, who also won a competition arranged by Mrs. Long. The monthly competition was won by Mrs. A. Vette. Mrs. Brooker gave a demonstration on the making of rag mats. Thi s was greatly appreciated by members.

The competition, “a fruit tart in a saucer,” was won by Mrs. Williams, with Mrs Grouper second. The beat bloom was won by Mrs. Smith and the best vegetable by Mrs Robertson.

_ .Next month’s competition will be “a work bag made from material,” and the demonstration will be “tatting,” by Mrs Vette. Next month’s hostesserj will be Mrs. Sewell and Mr s Kippenberger. The meeting closed with afternoon tea served by Mesdames Dunstan and Dennis. This year’s officers are as follows: President, Mrs. Brooker; secretary, Mrs. Long; treasurer, Mrs. Williams; minute secretary, Mrs. Kippenberger; committee, Mesdames Vette, Wannell, H. W. Br.mett, H. Barnett, Deed, Kippenb.rger and Inskeep.
