PARENTS’ DAY

LICHFIELD SCHOOL Glorious sunshine prevailed for “Parents’ Day” at the Lichfield School and hejped in no small measure to make the event a happy one. The school children turned out in full force, and the entries of calves and lambs were as good as in previous years. Mr. K. S. Cox judged the lambs, and Mr. E. D. White the calves. Mr. White, congratulated the competitors on the condition of their animals, and remarked on the great improvement in handling. This year the judges were placing greater importance on this feature of calfrearing, which meant that the animal gaining most points in the other sections did not always win. Mr. White expressed his pleasure in again being associated with the Lichfield Club, and wished it continued success. Mr. C. A. Deihl, chairman of the School Committee, replied, thanking Mr. White for tho very keen interest he had always taken in the club, and for the time he had given so unsparingly to it since 'its inception. Miss A. MeCarroll, head teacher, also thanked Mr. White for his generous support, and urged the children to carry out their projects faithfully and well, and to continue to do their best for the club, even though they might find it being run on different lines in the future. The judging of the calves and lambs was completed by lunch-time. A large number of parents and friends arrived in the early afternoon, which was given over to games, looking over and buying from the children’s stalls, and inspecting the school rooms which had been adorned with flowers and Christmas decorations by the teachers and pupils. A delicious afternoon tea was served about 3 p.m., on the lawn s of the attractive school grounds. Certificates of merit were presented to the competitors during the afternoon, and, following this, Miss McCarroll pinned rosettes of the school colours on the standard VI. boys. This was followed by a presentation of posies to the standard VI. girls. Mr. Deihl then spoke of the great interest Miss MeCarroll had always taken in the school’s livestock rearing project, and voiced the regret of Lichfield residents that, owing to Miss MeCarroll retiring from the teaching profession at the end of this term, this woa’d be her last calf club day. Miss MeCarroll suitably replied. Bouquets were then presented by two small girls to Miss MeCarroll and Miss Gordon, assistant.
