SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

The Putaruru Baptist Sunday School held its anniversary services over the week-end- On Sunday the sei vices were very well attended, the Rev. T. R.. Page preaching in the jgorning and the Rev. H- A- Darvill in the afternoon This year a new raised platform had been erected, and this seated the scholars more conveniently and enabled a better volume of singing as a result. At the afternoon service the school was delighted to welcome teachers and scholars from the other Sunday schools in the town. These with parents and visitors filled the church. ;

On Tuesday evening the scholars assembled for the annual tea, and good justice was done to the delectable dainties provided by the ladies of the church'The animal concert followed, those contributing being: Recitations, Betty. Colleen and Olive Armstrong, Ma- garet and Leslie Harper, Dorothy Williams, Jimmy, Nellie and Raymond Vaughan, Eunice McArthur and Isobel Hall; solos, Gerty Ward, Norah Henry and Betty Vaughan; duets, Willy McArthur and Jimmy Vaughan, and Nellie Vaughan and Eunice McArthur- The Y.W B.C. sang a conceited item, and the infant department delighted as the wee tots always do- The whole school choir sang four items, repeating some of the favourite pieces rendered on Sunday. The prize-giving followed, every scholar receiving a prize or cardMr. G. W. Edmeades, superintendent of the school, expressed the warmest thanks to all who had gathered, and asked for continued interest in the work of the school- The evening’s offering, amounting to £3 10s. 6d, is to be donated by the school to the local Red Cross. A most successful anniversary was brought to a close with the benediction, after which supper was enjoyed by all-
