RABBITS ON FENCES
BOARD’S “ AIRY ” REPLY Discussed by Chamber Reference to the “airy” discussion by the East Waikato Rabbit Board, as reported in the Press last week, on rabbits hanging on fences, which were the subject of a letter from the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce, was made by members of the chamber on Monday evening. “ I do not think there is any occasion for the Rabbit Board to treat this matter facetiously,” said Mr. R. W. Cook. “ The report absolutely ridiculed the chamber. They did not seem to send any bouquets to the chamber.”
“ The bouquets were on the fences,” remarked Mr. A. L. Mason, who is also secretary of the board. Messrs. S. H. Mason and W. R. Pass spoke feelingly against the hanging of rabbits.
Mr. A. L. Mason said he would not like any aspersions cast at the chamber, but he pointed out that he was not responsible for the decisions of the board. He alleged that a statement of his relevant to whether it was the business of the chamber was misinterpreted in the report.
After discussion on the matter it was thought that the board treated the letter to some extent sincerely.
