PUTARURU CLUB. Annual Meeting. The annual general meeting of the Putaruru Tennis Club was held on Tuesday evening. Sixteen members were present* with Mr. A. H. Dukeson, the club 'captain, in the chair. New Members. The following new members were elected : Mesdames C. V. Pearce, C. J. Christie, R. W. Cook, Macown, Misses Hoyt, M. Cleary, Messrs. J. D. Lindsay, Dudley, C. G. Beale, C. J. Christie, A. L. Mason, O. Scholes. Report and Balance-sheet. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet Mr. Dukeson said he considered that the club had had a hard year, but thanks to the good work of the secretary (Mr. A. Pearce) and the social committee it had managed to keep financially afloat. The coming year should not be as difficult as the last. In the report it was stated that all the club competitions were keenly contested and resulted as follow: Championships.—Senior ladies, Miss E. Wheeler; senior men, R. L. Paterson; junior ladies, ; Miss V. Meller; junior men, R. Rolfe. Handicap Singles.—Men, T. Leggett; ladies, Mrs. McKenzie. Yandle .Racquets.—Miss A. Grey and A. Pearce.
During the year the club went to considerable expense in resurfacing the hard court, which is now a decided asset to' the club. The courts are at present in good. order, and the committee looked forward to a good season. The club had lost the services of two highly-esteemed members in Miss E. Wheeler and Mr. H. Louden, both of whom had left the district. Election of Officers. The following officers were elected for the coming year : President, Mr. A. H. Dukeson; vice-presidents, Messrs. V. C. Bailey, F. J. B. Whyte, C. V. Pearce ; secretary, Mr. A. Pearce; auditor, Mr. V. C. Bailey; committee, Mrs. McKenzie, Miss B. Coupe, Messrs. Dudley, Clist, R. L. Paterson; club captain, Mr. F. J. B. Whyte ; ground committee, Messrs. F. J. B. Whyte and V. C. Bailey; selectors, Mr. A. H. Dukeson and Miss fi. Coupe; delegates to the Wai-
kato East Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. V. C. Bailey, A. Clist, A. D. Leys; match committee, Messrs. A. H. Dukeson, V. C. Bailey, Mrs. A. Clist, Miss P. M. Vincent; social committee, Mesdames Macown, V. L. Drummond, A. Clist, Misses B. Coupe, P. M. • Vincent, N. Gray, Messrs. J. P. K. Callaghan, Dudley, T. Pearce, R. L. Paterson, A. Pearce, A. D. Leys. . Subscriptions Remain the Same. It was decided that subscriptions should be the same as last year, viz.: Men, £2 2s; ladies, £1 11s 6d; juniors, £1 Is; country members outside a radius of three miles, men £1 11s 6d, ladies £1 ss. All subscriptions are subject to a rebate of 10s 6d if paid by December 31. Considerable discussion 'took place about the fact that in past years a few people had played for the first month or two in the season and then stopped and had not paid their subscriptions. The committee was recommended to look into the matter. General. A further recommendation to the committee was that a blackboard be purchased for booking courts. It was also resolved thqt, subject necessarily to the discretion of the match committee, on Sunday afternoons only combined doubles be allowed up to 4.30 o’clock.
