RACING.

THE EASTER MEETING. The acceptances for the first day of the Auckland Club’s autumn meeting ■were posted on Friday and an indication has since been given as to which of the principal southern performers will be brought north. Two of the acceptors for the President’s Handicap, Valkon and In the Shade, have dual engagements. Mask is at the head of the handicap with 8.11, followed by .two good ones in Satrap and Mandane. The latter should have the call on the other two when the final figures are hoisted. It will be a good betting race and the public may look to two with lighter weights, Valkon (if started) and Town Bank, for their main investments.

Damaris and Wild Pigeon will share favouritism in the Great Northern Oaks, the mile and a half race for fillies.

The Brighton Hurdles has drawn acceptances for fifteen horses, and it would seem that fully a dozen will go to the post. The public will no doubt make Wedding March favourite and he must run a good horse. Archibald and Potoanui will also be supported. The Easter Handicap will see the best milers in the country engaged, and it should be a great race. Investments are sure to take a wide range, with a fair dividend for anything that wins. Star Stranger and Joy King will start as a bracket, and the latter’s performance at Wellington will make it favourite. Bright Glow, which ran second to Joy King in the southern race, will also be well supported. Money Order will also doubtless be nibbled at. There are some smart juveniles in the Champagne Stakes, in which Auckland will expect Prince Humphrey to run a good race. Those who participated in Gold Money’s good dividend at Te Aroha will be encouraged to put some of it back on to \ the machine and may secure a dividend.

The public will have little to guide them in the Mangere Steeplechase this early in the season. If Wiltshire’s jumping has improved Mr. Wilson’s horse will carry support. Uralla can jump and the same can be said for Kamehameha. These three should dispute favouritism. The Onslow Stakes as usual is a very open proposition. The top weight, Lucy Rose, has shown winning form and will doubtless carry money. White Wings and Orewa will also be supported. There are no less than thirty hacks accepted for in the Eden Handicap, but a mile is a bit further than some of the horses will be able to go at top. Cynthia N. is an improving mare, and has been in the money in races over that distance, so that she will carry some solid investments. Micrometer and The Lover will also take the public’s eye. The Lover will probably be favourite.
